As part of our Medi Aid program, we are raising funds to support a little girl suffering from a severe case of Hydrocephalus, a chronic condition where there is fluid buildup in the ventricles within the brain. Salsa is two years old and has been living with this dangerously progressive condition without control treatments since birth.
Unfortunately, Salsa's mother, Ima, did not notice this abnormality until her very last month to delivery, a 3D ultrasound was then carried out and it was confirmed that Salsa had hydrocephalus, a condition that urgently needed a VP shunt surgical procedure,(insertion of a drainage system, called a shunt. It consists of a long, flexible tube with a valve that keeps fluid from the brain) however, after several tests, it was established that Salsa was severely jaundiced and her liver was not healthy enough to allow her to undergo surgery immediately.
Salsa was transferred to a Tangerang district hospital and was under observation and treatment for over 40 days to cure her liver for surgery. She was booked for surgery on the 23rd of March 2020 but was later rescheduled and kept on a long wait list due to facility pressure caused by the upsurge of the covid 19 pandemic.
After several weeks of trying, Salsa's parents gave up and decided to try non-medical therapy and herbal medicines which hasn't helped much.
Almost 3 years have gone by and Salsa's situation only got worse. Her head circumference keeps getting bigger which is putting immense pressure on her brain and fragile neck as she can no longer lift her head.

If not treated in a timely manner, Salsa may suffer permanent mobility issues and/or brain damage or lose her sight due to the increment in her head circumference. In some cases, the brain may be pressed against or even through the hole in the base of the skull (foramen magnum), which can crush important cranial nerves and can be life-threatening.
